About Kevin A. Barnes

Raised on a diet of science fact, science fiction and creative thinking, Kevin pretty much ended up where he always was headed.

Writer

Kevin started jotting stories in the margins of his elementary school notebooks and hasn’t stopped since. His writing has taken many forms: daily articles for the university newspaper and periodic features for the university magazine, 15 years worth of corporate communications, award-winning advertising copy, and a thread of science fiction stories weaved throughout it all. These days, Kevin’s writing also can be found on a number of blogs and websites.

Although Kevin has written science fiction throughout the last 30 years, he has not had any pieces published since college (specifically, since 1985). Thus his foremost goal for 2009 and 2010 is to “resume” his career as a published science fiction author.

Entrepreneur

Kevin has been a driving force behind two business startups. In 1979 (while a high school student), Kevin and five classmates founded and ran Abacus 2001 Computer Business Associates. Abacus 2001 was among the first companies to utilize the (at the time) new personal computers to provide data processing services — such as payroll processing, inventory management and custom software development — to other businesses.

During 2007 Kevin developed the business plan for a unique firm that helps other businesses incorporate strategic foresight into their own operations and planning. That strategic foresight business is currently in the startup phase.

Science Junkie, Futurist and Tomorrow Sage

Kevin is a professional member of the World Future Society and member of the British Interplanetary Society. In his basement, Kevin has built (and rebuilt) everything from computers and photo kiosks to furniture and industrial art.

Kevin also is very active with a number of charitable organizations, most prominently the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).
